Fallen Book Review

Fallen by Lauren Kate

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book! The cover is gorgeous! The story is about a girl, Luce, who sees these dark shadows who hurt people and when she can't explain it she is sent to reform school. There she meets two guys and both are extremely handsome. Daniel is distant and cold and pushes her away while Cam is smooth and shows his interest in her. I love how through most of the book think you know who the good guys are but you really are not sure. It also leaves a lot that has to be explained in the sequel. This book will have you hooked. I loved it and can't wait for Torment, book 2, coming out September 2010.

Beautiful Creatures Review

Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1)

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I read this book over the Christmas break and I really wanted to love it but I only ended up liking it. Some of my favorite authors wrote great blurbs on the back of the book. The cover is gorgeous! I was really excited to get the book. When I started reading it I liked that the story was told from the boys point of view. Who by the way is normal no super powers. Also Lena is really cute and can see and the out of place new girl. I also liked the flashbacks and the use of genealogy. Now the problem I had was the ending was left open. I also felt like maybe they tried to cover a lot. I did like the setting and the supporting characters. Especially the aunts and boo. Over all I liked the book.

Let It Snow Book Review

Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances by John Green

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Let it Snow is a really fun read. The book is three stories that all happen during Christmas Eve and day. It all revolve around a small town that is snowed in and all the stories are connected by minor characters. The first story is Maureen Johnson's and I think her's was my favorite. Jubilee the main character is on her way to her grandparents when her train gets stuck in the snow. She decides to get off and walks to the waffle house where the story begins. The second story is John Green's story where three friends have an adventure. I found this one to be really cute and can see it turned into a movie. The third story is by Lauren Myracle who tells her story but also brings together the characters from the other two stories. I found this to be a fun holiday read.

Devil's Kiss Book Review

Devil's Kiss Devil's Kiss by Sarwat Chadda

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was hooked from the first few pages. The story is based on the Knights Templar who hunt all that is unholy. This means vamps, wolves, devils, and archangels. The story is told from Billi's point of view who is the only female member to be in the Knights Templar. The story is really exciting and action packed. Billi mother was murdered when she was five and has not had a normal childhood. Her father is the head of the Knights Templar and does not take it easy on her. Once I started this book I could not put it down. This is definitely a must read!

Shadowland (Immortal Series) Book Review

Shadowland (The Immortals, #3) Shadowland by Alyson Noel

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I was really looking forward to this book in hopes that everything would work out for Ever but it really didn't. I am also surprised because usually I am on the side of the first guy who she falls for and goes though all the good and bad with but this is not the case. I am rooting for the new guy. Also there is a lot of indecisive and bad decisions. I really don't like Haven who isn't much of a best friend. The one person who truly stole my heart in the series is her little sister Riley. Ahh how I loved her!

Blue Moon Book Review

Blue Moon (The Immortals, #2) Blue Moon by Alyson Noel

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
While I found this book to be really emotional and at times hard to read because of everything Ever goes though I must say I still enjoyed it. I just kept feeling my heart break for Ever because to have to live through such horrible things and only to find your soul mate for a brief moment and then loose him in a blink of an eye. This takes the meadow scene and 4 blank pages in New Moon and extends it through the whole book. I wanted to reach through the pages and to hug and cry with Ever. I think anyone who has gone though a bad break up or felt that high school was the hardest time of your life can relate to this book. Can I say that I completely HATE ROMAN! I only hope that Alyson Noel will give Ever some happiness in the next book.

Evermore Book Review

Evermore (The Immortals, #1) Evermore by Alyson Noel

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book had me hooked from the moment I picked it up. I read the book in a day because I couldn't put it down. My heart goes out to Ever, because she suffered so much. Oh my god I love her little sister Riley. The ending with Riley had me in tears. I love all the twist and turns and how your not sure if to trust Damen. Part of me wanted to hate him but then he does sweet random things and he pulls you back in. This was a great story and I loved it!

Girl Stays in the Picture Book Review

Girl Stays in the Picture Girl Stays in the Picture by Melissa de la Cruz

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book was so cute and a very fun read. Melissa gives us a view into the fabulous life of celebs and the papz who hound them. The story is told from 3 girls point of view Devon, a movie star, Casey, an assistant, and Oliva, a producers daughter. The girls all become friends and share fun adventures in Saint-Tropez. I love how some of the minor characters are so much like real celebrities. I can't wait for the follow up book to Girl Stays in the Picture.

Reporting from the New Moon Hot Topic Tour

So the Hot Topic Tour stopped in Houston and while I can tell you it was fun and really crowded nothing can explain it like videos and pictures. I tried not to go crazy but being so close to Nov. 20th it's very hard to contain my excitement. My day started out very normal I checked twitter, gmail, www.newmoonmovie.org, and maybe a few sites for new pics that popped up overnight. I know but like I said we are almost at Nov 20th! Then I ask my boss if I can leave at noon to get to the Galleria early so I can get a good view of Alex Meraz and Koala Bear (Kiowa Gordon) and he just laughed and said yes! YAY did I mention I have the best boss ever! So I get to the mall and see there isn't a line so I get some food because the event starts at 7:30 I think I should eat but not drink to much before I get in line for 7 1/2 hours. I hang out in the mail until about 2 and then I learn that the event is at a different location! Well I hurry over and luckily there are only 7 people there. They are super sweet and we become line-besties. I did come prepared with line entertainment such as New Moon the book, Podcast loaded with the New Moon soundtrack, Twilight Newborn Podcast, and Twilight the movie, also a camera, and phone with access to twitter. So the 7 1/2 hours just flew by with the exception of never being able to feel my bottom half again. Seriously for a second I thought I was to old to sit on the floor. Yes I said floor! Ok so having a fan girl moment is fun but way better if you can talk your peeps into joining you. Luckily I made sitting on the floor for 7 hours sound like so much fun that Mercedes and Lydia came to join me. YAY! I was a little shocked by some of the people around me. Seriously some hadn't read the book. Others thought Taybait would be at the event when we all know he was in Paris. One teenybopper said she was ready to jump on stage and RAPE Alex. Then her friend said oh he's married and she went on to say "Who cares!" Seriously where are the parents!?! Yeah that statement means I'm old. Anyways the guys came out like 20 min early and were really great. They answered questions that the fans thought up. So all in all it was good.

So check out the pics and videos:

Ballad: The Gathering of Faerie Review

Ballad: The Gathering of Faerie Ballad: The Gathering of Faerie by Maggie Stiefvater

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I finished Ballad by Maggie Stiefvater last night. Before I get into the review I want to talk a little about fairy books and the author. I read different fairy books in the past but only really loved Holly Black’s version. I feel like most of the fairy books I had read were sad and didn’t believe in happy endings. I was hesitant to pick up another fairy book. I first discovered Maggie’s books when I came across Shiver at Borders. I sat and read the first few pages and I was hooked. Shiver is about wolves and is so beautifully written that I needed to read the rest of her books. At first I had a hard time finding the books at Borders and I had to keep asking them to stock them. When I read Lament I found the same wonderful writing as Shiver. I love how Maggie’s books really drop you in the story. She has an attention to detail that uses all your senses when you read her books. She describes what her characters feel, see, smell, taste, and all the sounds around them.

Ballad is the follow up to Lament but the story is told from James’ point of view. Deirdre the main character in Lament still plays a very important role but she is no longer the main character. I kept shooting tweets at the author trying to find out what happens but she wouldn’t tell. LOL At points I found the story to be sad but overall it was a really great book. We do see some of the old characters from Lament but we also meet a lot of new characters. One is Nuala a muse who wants to make a trade with James. Like all fairies there is a price to pay for her inspiration. James having dealt with fairies in the past has a better chance at not making a deal with her, but will he?

I really loved the quotes at the beginning of each Nuala's chapters. There are still many questions so I hope there will be a third book. I loved this book and Maggie is now one of my favorite authors.

Unique Features also the company who picked up the Mortal Instruments movie rights.

grace
This is the story of a boy who used to be a wolf and a girl who was becoming one.
Just a few months ago, it was Sam who was the mythical creature. His was the disease we couldn’t cure. His was the good-bye that meant the most. He had the body that was a mystery, too strange and wonderful and terrifying to comprehend.
But now it is spring. With the heat, the remaining wolves will soon be falling out of their wolf pelts and back into their human bodies. Sam stays Sam, and Cole stays Cole, and it’s only me who’s not firmly in my own skin.

Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception

Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception by Maggie Stiefvater

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lament is a beautiful story.  I love that Deirdre is an ordinary girl.  Dee is dealing with an over protective and controlling mother when she comes across a boy who truly sees her.  Luke seems to know her better than most and wants nothing more than to love her.   Deirdre goes from wallflower to a strong character that even the Fairy Queen wants eliminated.  I have not been the biggest fan of fairy books but this one is truly one of the best.  Lament gives you love, loss, betrayal, and suspense.  I can’t wait to read the follow up Ballad.

Tempted - House of Night Series

Tempted came out Tuesday and I'm on page 155 of 319!  I am excited because at first I didn't like this series but it grew on me. For those of you who wonder why @MsEdu  and I call each other Twin well it started in this series.  Check out the House of Night Website House of Night Website

Also some of my very fab twitter friends read this series.

From the House of night site: So…you’d think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark’s life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang. Juggling three guys is anything but a stress reliever, especially when one of them is a sexy Warrior who is so into protecting Zoey that he can sense her emotions. Speaking of stress, the dark force lurking in the tunnels under the Tulsa Depot is spreading, and Zoey is beginning to believe Stevie Rae could be responsible for a lot more than a group of misfit red fledglings. Aphrodite’s visions warn Zoey to stay away from Kalona and his dark allure, but they also show that it is Zoey who has the power to stop the evil immortal. Soon it becomes obvious that Zoey has no choice: if she doesn’t go to Kalona he will exact a fiery vengeance on those closest to her. Will Zoey have the courage to chance losing her life, her heart, and her soul? Find out in the next spectacular installment in the House of Night series, TEMPTED.

Hush, Hush

Hush, Hush Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The inside of the book jacket starts with "A Sacred Oath, A Fallen Angel, A Forbidden Love".  Patch is the irresistible bad boy on the cover.  I read chapter 1 on the author’s site and I was hooked.  For a first time writer she hit it out of the park.  Fans of Dimitri and Rose, Edward and Bella, Jack and Skylar, and Clary and Jace will love this story.  Nora the main character is just trying to get through high school biology when Patch walks into her life and turns it upside down.  She doesn’t know why she stumbles and gets herself twisted when she’s around him.  Patch being a very hot bad boy doesn’t make it easy on Nora.  A lot of strange things happen and Nora is left to deal with them and figure out who is behind it.  I recommend this book to everyone but don’t blame me if you fall for Patch!  He has that affect on all the women!

Strange Angels Review

Strange Angels (Strange Angels #1) Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I found this book a little hard to follow. There were times I had to go back to see if I missed something. The idea was good and I'm sure I'll read the second book. All the voices in her head made it hard to follow. I hope to see how this develops.

The Van Alen Legacy

October 6th is finally a day away! I am really excited because The Van Alen Legacy, book four in The Blue Blood Series, is finally being released. Melissa de la Cruz left us at a cliff hanger last year. Lawrence Van Alen is dead and Schuyler is blamed for setting the Silver Bloods free. Everyone seems unhappy except the Evil Mimi. Well she’s not evil as in end the world but she is the “B*tch we all love to hate”. So many questions! Will Allegra wake up? What is going on with Bliss? Will Jack go through with the wedding? Where does that leave Schuyler? I can’t wait to pick up my copy tomorrow during lunch. Also Target has a special in-store promotion that has a secret deleted chapter.

Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2) Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is so exciting. I am not a sci-fi fan but this book really draws you in. I really like how this whole new world is created and how it's described in such detail. Katniss is so amazing and smart. Also the star cross lovers angle is so great you just eat it up. I loved this book.

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

I listened to the first chapter and this book seems really interesting.  I will be adding this to my growing to read list.

Hush Hush will be released October 13, 2009

Here is the info on Hush Hush from Becca's website www.beccafitzpatrick.com

THE STORY: HUSH, HUSH

Falling in love was never so easy . . .

or so deadly.

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

The Last Song

The Last Song The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A true Nicholas Sparks masterpiece! The Last Song dealt with love, loss, faith, forgiveness and truth. I related with Ronnie and understood her. Finding that connection makes you really care about the characters. Nicholas's writing makes all your senses come alive with his words. The story starts out with Ronnie, an angry teenager, who finds love for the first time and reunites with her estranged father. Along this path she learns so much about herself and those around her. Her experiences that summer help shape the young woman she becomes towards the end of the book. I loved this book from start to finish and hope the movie lives up to this book. I recommend this book to everyone.

Thanks to my friend Sassy who stood in line for hours to get me an autographed copy.

Vampire Diaries Review

The Awakening and The Struggle by L.J. Smith

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I liked the Stefan and Elena story. The rivalry between brothers Stefan and Damon was great. I was not happy with how the book ended. I am excited to see how the tv show compares to the book. It was very catchy and I got hooked easy on the book but I'm not complete in love.

Dreaming Anastasia Review

Dreaming Anastasia: A Novel of Love, Magic, and the Power of Dreams Dreaming Anastasia: A Novel of Love, Magic, and the Power of Dreams by Joy Preble

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I enjoyed that Joy brought new life to this timeless story.  I like that this story is told from three different points of view.  We hear from Ethan whose mission is to find the girl who will set Anastasia free.  We hear from Anne who is linked to Anastasia and last we hear Anastasia’s point of view in journal writings to her family.  I like the twist that Anastasia is alive all these years and kept hostage by the witch Baba Yaga.  The book holds a lot of Russian influence and is something new and different.  I think the book was a cute read.  I look forward to seeing more from Joy Preble.
