Project 17 by Laurie Faria Stolarz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Project 17 is about six teens who sneak into an abandon asylum to film a documentary. If not for this project these kids would never be friends. The group consists of the bad boy, the two drama kids who are dating, the goth girl, the gorgeous but also smartest girl in school, and the class clown. I liked the creepy atmosphere that Danvers State Hospital adds. I also like that that nobody believes it’s haunted and everyone has their own agenda about the project. While searching the rooms of Dvers they find a journal written by a girl who was hospitalized and eventually driven crazy by the hospital. The journal along with the hauntings the group feels a connection to those patients. After reading the journal they have to complete a task before leaving. The event some how made the experience more personal. The back of the book describes the story as Breakfast Club meets Blair witch and I agree that there are some similarities. The book seems like it could be inspired by those two movies but as a child of the 80’s those are really high standards. Overall I thought it was a fun story and I like the author.
Favorite Character: Christine
Favorite Part: Greta sitting in the auditorium talking to Christy
Scariest Part: The whispering Mimi heard in the kitchen.
