Review: Torment by Lauren Kate
Torment by Lauren Kate
5 of 5 Stars
Torment, the second book in the Fallen Series, has a somber tone as Luce tries to come to terms with the loss of her friend and who she really is. Luce doesn’t know if an eternity of love and loss with Daniel is the best thing for her. Daniel and Cam decide to work together to battle all those who want to see Luce dead and in doing so he will have to leave her in order to save her. Luce of course is not happy that she can’t start "forever after" with Daniel but it also gives her time to learn more about her past lives.
In order for Luce to be safe she is enrolled in Shoreline a school for Nephilim, the children of angels where she finds out that her history is a common story among the Nephilim. Her room mate Shelby is hot and cold with Luce. She wants to help Luce find out about her past, but seems to hold a grudge that involves Daniel. Luce starts to wonder what Daniel was like during the years he wasn’t with her. Luce also realizes that not only was her life disrupted every time she chose Daniel but so were those of her parents and siblings she left behind in all those lives.
Over and over Luce wonders if Daniel's love is more of a curse than bliss. Luce becomes a strong young woman during her time at Shoreline and in the end makes a choice for herself and no one else. I wish that the angels from Sword and Cross had played a bigger role in Torment but regardless I hung on every word Lauren Kate delivers.
Get out of the way Patch because Daniel and Cam are the hottest fallen angels around! I found Torment to be beautiful and can’t wait for Passion the next book in the Fallen Series to be released in 2011.
