Banned Book Giveaway Hop

Celebrating Banned Book Week sounds unreal right? I mean who bans books? Do adults really think so little of teens that they censor reading material? As bloggers we take this negative action and spin it into something positive. What better way to celebrate banned books than to put those books in readers hands!

Ellen Hopkins reading from Tilt at Blue Willow Bookshop in Houston, TX

I have met Ellen Hopkins a number of times and I'm amazed at what a wonderful and down to earth person she is. Ellen's novels are the "darker side" of life dealing with drugs, abuse, and pain. Why? She explained that Crank was inspired by her daughter. Ellen's readers reach out and say "that is my life" in your story. Some fans teared up when she spoke. Many moms drove over an hour on a work day to bring their kids to meet Ellen Hopkins. A few teens had every book that Ellen had ever written and she spent time with every fan. Why would you want to stomp out that passion? Why would you want to sensor an author who has touched so many people? Ellen is one of many authors who have been banned or challenged. I ask that you take time to learn more about about Banned Books from the American Library Association. I also ask that you stand up to censorship and use these books to communicate with teens.

  13. I listened to the audio of Crank because sometimes books with highly stylized writing can be kind of distracting for me in print. I thought Crank was brilliant and I would love to own the print copy for my shelf.

  21. I love Ellen Hopkin's books. They're so real and dark, but they tell how the world is sometimes. Her books teach teens and adults that no one is perfect and that everyone goes through some bad things in life, some worse than others.

I am strongly against banning books. Thank you so much for being part of this giveaway. :)

  77. I hate the notion that people would ban books at all. Some of my favorite books are banned!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I can't even think why people feels the need of banning books. I mean writers work really hard for their books to give a new perspective and there's someone telling them their hard work should go to waste just because they don't like it? It sounds ridiculous for the 21st century, really. Anyway, some of my favorites books are on that list, so I don't even think that they're are doing a good job.
